Is Thanks.io free? What the $0 plan includes

Partly: Thanks.io's Pay as you go plan has no monthly fee, but every piece you mail costs its per-piece rate, such as $1.18 for a 4x6 postcard, as read on October 24, 2026. The rate includes printing, a digitally rendered handwriting-style message, the piece and US postage. Thanks.io's help center says every Pay as you go piece mails First Class, the faster USPS class.

The plan covers postcards, letters, notecards and Magnacards (magnetic postcards), plus API access, and it sends one piece at a time with no minimum. Gift cards need Business or Professional. The pricing page lists no setup fees for the plans, and the help center calls this plan Free.

Free samples and the $10 signup credit

Thanks.io's button reads "Get free samples + $10 credit", and its home page words the offer as "No credit card · Samples ship free · $10 credit on signup". The help center says sign-up ships physical samples so you can see the print quality.

Thanks.io's pricing FAQ says credits earned from promotions, like the $10 signup credit, are valid for 90 days. Its terms say free credits cover printing costs only and cannot be refunded or turned into cash.

Thanks.io free trial: none documented for paid plans

No Thanks.io page documents a free trial of Business or Professional, or a refund period for a plan. The pricing page says no commitments and cancel from your dashboard at any time. Its terms, updated October 22, 2026, say monthly plans cancel at any time and yearly plans are a twelve-month commitment, with no refund for unused services or earlier billing periods, apart from a one-time courtesy refund at Thanks.io's discretion shortly after a renewal. Start on monthly billing.

The help center adds a first-month credit on Business, which the pricing page does not mention; confirm it at sign-up.

When the free plan stops being the cheaper one

Business is $49 a month, and its 4x6 postcard is $0.77 at Standard Mail, USPS's lower-priced, slower class. At the listed 4x6 rates, $1.18 and $0.77, the fee is covered from about 120 postcards a month, or about 137 when Business mails First Class too. Below that, Pay as you go costs less, and a Pay as you go account sees both prices for each order before it pays.

Pick Pay as you go for a few pieces a month, a first batch to judge the print quality, or sends fired from code through the API. The Thanks.io Business plan page lists what Business adds, and Thanks.io pricing covers every plan.

For a printed postcard with no monthly fee, PostGrid's Starter plan covers up to 500 mailings a month at $0.902 a 4x6 postcard at First Class, and Postalytics's Free plan lists $1.081 at First Class. All three rates include postage. More options sit under Thanks.io alternatives.
